A museum visit usually ends with something from the gift shop. In Amsterdam, this one can end with a Rembrandt you wear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rembrandt House Museum is hosting the second edition of The Poor Man\u2019s Rembrandt Project<\/em> from October 26 through November 7, 2026. Henk Schiffmacher and the Schiffmacher & Veldhoen team are bringing tattooing into the museum, giving visitors the chance to choose a Rembrandt-inspired design and have it tattooed on site. The museum\u2019s October 15 announcement<\/a> confirms the dates and the return of a project first held in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not just art on the wall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The temporary studio is in the museum\u2019s modern wing, not Rembrandt\u2019s original working studio. The connection is still direct: the project puts drawing, ink and craftsmanship at the center of a conversation between historic printmaking and contemporary tattooing. Details are on the museum\u2019s official event page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For tattoo collectors, that\u2019s the interesting part. A design changes when it moves from a flat surface to a living body. Placement, scale and the artist\u2019s decisions become part of how it\u2019s read. This is not a claim that a tattoo and an etching are the same thing. It\u2019s a chance to look at the skill in both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A full-back piece, with a November finale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project also includes a full-back interpretation of Rembrandt\u2019s The Descent from the Cross<\/em> (1633). The museum says the tattoo is being developed across multiple sessions, with its final session planned for Museumnacht on November 7. That is a scheduled finale, not a finished result we have independently seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event page lists tattoos at \u20ac100\u2013\u20ac350, with a \u20ac50 deposit for advance bookings. Some daily walk-in spaces are reserved, but availability is not guaranteed. Check the museum\u2019s booking link for current options and any admission requirements before making plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For everyone watching from elsewhere, the appeal is bigger than a travel itinerary. Tattooing does not need a museum\u2019s permission to be art. But seeing the two share a room gives people another way to recognize the craft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
